A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I work with students from grades K0-5. Our population includes children from low income neighborhoods, and autistic children. The only time many of them get to enjoy being children is when they are in school during recess. Our community has a history of crime and violence.
During recess, the children just play kickball, shoot some hoops, and run around in a chaotic, and hectic way. They don't have the equipment or trained staff to organize and facilitate games that teach leadership and team work.
Our school will collaborate with a program called Sports4Kids. The school pays one half, and the program matches the funds. The program provides one site coordinator who is trained, and will organize sports, and games during all recess periods, and after school.
The program will introduce games and sports, that will teach valuable skill building exercises, and cooperative games in a structure, fun, and safe environment. This will prove to be most beneficial for the students at our school, as it will instill healthy teamwork activities. The program does not provide the standard equipment that we need. We need equipment which includes playground balls, basketballs, rubber soccer balls, soft volley balls, rubber foot balls, flag sets, cones, jump ropes, and hula hoops.
Your support will provide our students with the opportunity to develop healthy habits that they will enjoy. Recess at school is the only time many of our children get to play and feel safe. This makes such a difference for them to have an opportunity to release all the energy they have, which works hand in hand with their learning. A lot of our students are out sick due to various reasons, and we know how vital it is for children to get plenty of exercise, and to have fun being children.
