My Students

Do you remember wanting to learn to read more than anything else as a child? Do you remember the excitement of finding words and books that you could read without the help of anyone? My students are now feeling this way!

I teach Kindergarten to 5 year-olds in rural South Carolina.

Our school was featured on ETV's Corridor of Shame. We are a Title One school with 93% of students receiving free or reduced lunch. My students are eager to learn. We have had drastic budget cuts. We have now received notice that all funds have been frozen.

My Project

For the past five years our Kindergarten classes have been using Saxon Phonics and Spelling where reading has been taught in a very systematic way. Through this process the children have been able to experience success daily, and the results have been amazing. Our test scores have improved, and less students have been retained. We were extremely disappointed to hear that our school will not be able to purchase this much needed program next year due to more budget cuts. I hope to be able to continue to help my students feel success through the use of this program.

Phonics and Spelling K has made a tremendous difference in the lives of our students and their ability to learn to read.

Your support of this project will help next year's students fulfill their dreams of learning to read, and help them to become lifelong readers. With your help our students will be able to continue to feel success and learn to read in Kindergarten.
