This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are mostly new immigrants and absolutely love having a fish tank in the classroom, however they've taken such good care of the fish that they don't have room in their current habitat. My students use the tank for learning how to speak English, many of my students are newcomers and come from communities by the water and are excited to learn the names of the fish and other elements in the tank in English. It's such a great support for my students in learning English, learning writing, and even speaking skills to talk in full sentences.. They were so sad when their fish Sheldon recently died, because his home was too small. I promised them I would create a project to try to get the rest of their fish a new and bigger home. As ENL students they love learning about their fish and talking about them. While learning to read takes a little more time we try to listen to books to learn about fish on their iPads.

The new tank will give them so much more to learn about and speak about as they learn English and speaking skills, while headphone jacks will help them learn about fish from books read to them that they can listen to on their iPads.

I like to let them listen to nonfiction books about fish so they can learn more about taking care of them. The problem is my student headphones don't fit through their protective cases, these adapters will be a quick go around and will allow learning to flourish by allowing them to plug their headphones into the lightning jack. Please consider supporting this project and my newcomer students as they grow in their learning of English and literacy through the topics of fish, habitats, and science.
