Help me give my students 35 softcover "Fish in a Tree" books, 1 hardcover version of the book and 35 comprehension books to end our 6th-grade year with resources we need to build up our growth mindset.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our Home away from Home is made up of 33 of our very fabulous 6th Scholars. Our mission for our club is to bring more social-emotional skills through the art of reading.
“Strength does not come from winning, Your struggles develop your strengths and when you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is a strength.”
Our class focuses on resiliency, practicing growth mindset and art that lives in the books. We do this with laughter, fearlessness, and fun.
My Project
Reading the book, "Fish in A Tree," is about a student who struggles with understanding how to read and resorts to misbehavior to avoid the struggle. That is until they meet a teacher who changes their perspective on learning.
Helping our scholars in our classroom understand that sometimes "our best" does not mean the level of our intelligence but rather the perseverance in our learning and determination to meet our goals is important.
Reading this book and keeping a daily journal of our reading, will help us draw connections to the events that occur with the characters and how they display their resiliency.
