Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a diverse, first grade, integrated, collaborative teaching (ICT) class, with a combined mixture of general and special education students at a large, high-needs, Title I school in the north Bronx. Although most students come from low-income homes or homes with limited parental school involvement, they are enthusiastic and truly come to school every day, ready to learn. These children see school as a consistent part of their daily lives and strive daily to make me proud.

My class of first graders is some of the happiest children I have ever had the pleasure of working with.

Not only do several of them struggle with unstable home lives, but many cope with various disabilities such as ADHD, autism, and speech and language impairments. These kids inspire me to provide the best education I can for them.

My Project

This fish tank will allow my students to have responsibility and teach them to respect animals. By having a class pet, the students will be able to watch it grow, have a friend to read to if they are uncomfortable reading aloud to peers, and even give them the chance to just experience what it means to have a pet.

I plan to use this aquarium to give my students the chance to see science in action and watch the plants we put in grow as well as our fish with the use of light and water.
