My Project

Animals and children have a special bond. Having a class pet allows students to learn (research and observation), become responsible (feeding and cleaning) and learn empathy (how does the animal feel?). Our class is a special education class of eighth graders who have learning disabilities, social and emotional needs and speech and language needs. Having a class pet allows the students to explore and wonder about the animal and its' life.

Students will research the variety of fish in the world, where they are located and their role in the ecosystem.

Students will observe the behaviors of the fish in the fish tank. They can write "how to" books on caring for them, write research papers on the type of fish and also write fictional stories using the fish as characters.

We are extending this idea even further with live plants. My students will take care of and be responsible for both and learn the importance of their role. Please help with these fish accessories, plants, pots, and soil to help make this project possible.
