My students range from 9th to 12th grade, and most have had very little exposure to the performing arts. They come alive when we play improv games and apply what they are learning. I love the excitement in their eyes when we talk about possible field trips and upcoming plays.
The most exciting thing about these students is the confidence they gain from theatre.
One particularly shy student has undergone a transformation that amazes everyone. She now volunteers for everything.
My Project
Since the beginning of our theatre program, students have begged to attempt a musical, but we were not equipped. The portable sound system will allow students the ability to move freely onstage while they sing and deliver lines. They have been working on projection in line delivery, but adding a musical component requires more than they can achieve on their own.
The portable sound system will also help to level the playing field when they go to theatre festivals in the fall to compete with other schools.
They were at a disadvantage this year because they didn't have needed funding.
More than half of students from low‑income households
