Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a first-year speech-language pathologist in a public elementary school. Our school is working towards building the skills of children with speech and language difficulties. We are dedicated to bridging the gap for our students and fostering their independence and individuality. Most students I will be servicing are bilingual.

Being a first-year speech-language pathologist is very exciting.

I am incredibly eager to begin working with my students and watching them grow to their full potential. However, with being a first year comes the lack of resources. During my time in graduate school, I accumulated some materials, but not nearly enough. The materials I am requesting are a mix of items that not only would benefit my students this year, but students in years to come.

Basics, such as pencils, dry erase boards, markers, crayons, laminating sheets, scissors, and glue will not only help my students with their expressive/receptive language but will also help me create resources for them to use during sessions.

Books are essential to literacy-based speech sessions. With this approach, I can work on a multitude of goals, such as, story components, vocabulary, inferencing, sequencing as well as expressive/receptive language. All the books I have chosen are not only diverse in representation, but also are in Spanish and in English. The cards and picture book requested will also aid in reaching these goals.

When tackling articulation difficulties, visual aids are super important. This is why I am requesting the model of the mouth. With this model I will be able to show students the exact position of the tongue during certain sounds.

Lastly, the Clorox wipes will help me keep my speech area clean and germ free.
