Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a first-year teacher, I have the opportunity to create core learning memories for my students. These activities, planting flowers and watching butterflies life cycles, are not just academic exercises, but memories that will stick with students for years to come. It's these kinds of experiences that students often recall when thinking back to their school years. By introducing them to these processes, I will be able to create meaningful learning moments that they will carry forward in their education.

Planting flowers and observing butterflies directly ties into science curriculum standards like life cycles, ecosystems, and the environment.

These activities can also be integrated with literacy (e.g., reading about butterflies, writing about their observations) and even art (e.g., drawing the stages of the butterfly life cycle). This can also inspire curiosity and a "growth mindset" in students, as they see that things take time to develop and improve.
