Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first graders students are some of the most loving, imaginative, and hard-working kids I have ever met. Their joy is contagious, and you cannot help but get excited to learn and play with them once you enter our classroom.

True global citizens, my 30 students embrace those around them with compassion and empathy, eager to learn about the differences that make up our bilingual classroom.

My students are curious, creative, and eager to learn about their world.

While our school strives to meet high social-emotional and academic standards, it faces many challenges unfortunately common in urban education. Our Title I public school in Washington, D.C. serves a diverse group of students, with 54% receiving English Language Learner support and 10% receiving Special Education support. 100% of our students receive free and reduced lunch. As a dual language school, our students have 50% of their education in Spanish, and the other 50% in English.

My Project

Our classroom has tables, and students do not have any dedicated area to put their materials. Seat pockets are a great alternative to desks and allow students to keep the things they use most often within easy reach.

Seat pockets would help my students with organization skills.

These seat pockets will be utilized in the classroom so they can take care of their books, writing folders, and pencil cases since due to the pandemic, they need to have their own supplies.

This opportunity will allow my students to learn the importance of organization while making sure everyone has a spot for their supplies.
