This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I currently have enough materials to have 2/3 of one of my three classes at one of the grade levels to actively participate in FIRST Lego League learning in the classroom. This equates to only one class out of 8 (targeted) or 14 (expanded to include K and 1) to partially participate in the equipment. Groups of students per kit are suggested at 4 for an optimal interaction, but our groups will need to be 9 students for only one class.

The programming, physical engineering and applied science interactions are key to exposing my students to STEM and setting them up for future success.

I would love to have enough materials to have a full class set and then rotate through my classes at different times of the year. Sharing the materials as we have to do means less hands-on/minds-on interactions for each student. We are a Title I school and I want to help my students have rich experiences in STEM that they may not otherwise get exposed to. At this grade level, research has shown that the gender, socio-economic and racial gap increases in STEM experiences. I want to help mitigate that and ensure they can dream as big as they want and have the essential skills the FIRST LEGO League's core values reinforce.
