My Project

A number of new students coming from other countries registered in my school from Pre-K to 5 grades at the end of the school year. My third grade class last year had 17 English language learners out of 25 students. I will have them again this coming school year, so I would like to be ready to work with English language learners who did not speak a word of English but were schooling in their own country before. They were eager to learn but did not know where to start. I believe that the first language acquisition positively affects a second language acquisition. Therefore, providing them with books in their first language or with both languages is a great start to introduce English learning.

Bilingual books or literatures in English Language Learners' first language definitely facilitate learning English and help them feel included and comfortable in a new environment!

In addition, the books in my shopping list support young language learners to understand different culture and the new country they are in now.
