This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a school where most of my students come from families that are economically disadvantaged. Our school is considered high-poverty, and approximately 70% of our students receive free lunch.
I teach 15 students who come from so many different backgrounds, but who all have one thing in common: a desire to learn and play!
The students that come to me every day are silly, smart, and curious about the world around them! They take pride in everything they do, and there is nothing quite like experiencing the world through their eyes.
My Project
My students always come in with their own unique set of needs and learning abilities. I am finding myself creating games and practice materials every week! As a result, I am going through cardstock paper, laminating sheets, and game pieces at a super fast pace. Making these materials allows my students to work on similar games with their peers, while practicing a different skill set depending on their needs. The addition of these games to the classroom allows me to differentiate so that all of my students can feel successful, while challenging those who need it.
This year, my students are requiring more personalized games, which I am having to make based on the needs of my classroom.
I know that these games are giving my students some much needed practice on skills that they have learned, while reviewing those that they may not have mastered in Kindergarten. We really need these laminating materials to keep creating these valuable tools for my students to use.
