My Students

My school serves approximately 440 students and is part of a smaller district in Southern California. It is a sought-after elementary school in the community because expectations are high and students are challenged to achieve to their highest potential.

My students come from a wide range of socio economic backgrounds but does not receive additional funding such as Title I funds though it has similar needs to such schools.

My Project

When I used both Scholastic News magazine articles and Science Spin in my classroom in the past, students were engaged and full of questions. Each article perfectly relates to our standards for first grade and provides students with a new resource to practice their reading skills.

Now more than ever, it is important to expose students to a variety of text types and tangible resources such as the magazines and articles that Scholastic provides.

These resources help students further develop their reading skills while also learning science and social studies concepts. The subscriptions also grant us access to online resources in the classroom with a variety of activities, videos, and games to further keep students excited to learn.
