Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Thank you for considering this proposal! I am the teacher of 20 wonderful 1st Grade students. It is a 4-Track K through 5 school. Our enrollment consists of 720 students, where 93.5% are English Language Learners and 100% are Socio-economically disadvantaged. Being in First Grade could be very stressful for many of students because they are expected to learn many new concepts and improve many skills. The practice of yoga involves stretching the body and forming different poses, while keeping breathing slow and controlled. The body becomes relaxed and energized at the same time. In addition, Yoga improves children's tone, stretch and strengthen both the internal and external systems of their bodies. Last year, I began teaching my students Yoga, but I have to admit that for many of them was a bit uncomfortable because they had to practice Yoga laying on the hard wooden floor of our school's auditorium. My project includes the purchase of Yoga mats for each of my students. I believe that this would enrich the existent Yoga program by leaving kids feeling comfortable, excited, balanced and fit. My students and I thank you for taking the time to read our proposal!
