My Students

The world of reading is just opening up for children in first grade. This project will allow the children to study an animal that they are naturally curious about. They will gain skills and confidence to seek out information on topics that interest them in their own life.

My students are the most awesome first graders.

They are always eager to learn and they love a challenge. We have a little bit of every type of personality in our classroom and we are group that celebrates our differences and grow from learning with each other on a daily basis. There is a bond that develops when you experience new exciting things. I strive for my classroom to be the community that fosters that bonding between the students and myself while instilling a foundation for a lifetime of learning.

My Project

I am requesting 25 copies of National Geographic shark reader so that each child can hold and work with the text individually. It is always a challenge to have enough of any supply for each child to get their own. The other big shark books will allow my students to read more in depth about sharks and allow me to differentiate my lessons. We will also be able to use the included shark posters to visually study sharks. The shark model will allow my students to actually see a shark from the inside out as we learn. AMAZING!

Donations for this project will improve our classroom by allowing students to grow with non fiction texts, studying an animal that naturally instills awe in first graders.

The students will be able to do research as well as learn about the elements of non fiction texts. This project will lay the foundation for students to actively seek out texts to learn about topics that interest them and allow them to extend their own curiosity and learning.
