My Students

First graders need as much exposure to books on their reading level as they can get! This comes in many forms but one major way this happens is through readers' workshop where students read books on their specific reading level.

I teach an exceptional group of first graders at a charter school in Maryland.

My students' ability levels range from students with special needs to students that are gifted. Because of this, my teaching is always differentiated and at the students' level, using as many different teaching techniques as possible.

My Project

When students start first grade, they are supposed to be reading on a beginning first grade level (around a level D). Because of my students' varying ability levels, my students come in reading at many different levels with a lot of my students coming in reading at a beginning kindergarten level. Because of this, my students need more leveled books at their specific reading levels (especially low kindergarten books). These books will help my students' reading confidence grow as well as their fluency, and thus their reading levels will increase.

Donations made to this proposal will help first graders become much more successful readers.

Your donations will help give my students practice with different books, including fiction and nonfiction at a level that is exactly where they are. Thank you in advance for your donations!
