My Students

My First Graders love to read! Unfortunately, our collection of leveled books is showing its age. Many books are ripped, missing pages, or have mysterious stains. We need some fresh new books to keep our readers reading!

I teach First Grade at a Charter School in a very low income neighborhood in New York.

My students come from diverse backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common- they love to read! Many students don't have access to books outside of school, so our classroom library is absolutely critical. Students read these books independently, with partners, and they take them home for homework to read with their families.

My Project

We are asking for books that are at the just-right levels of our readers. First Graders need these books to build fluency, sight-words, and decoding skills. Our current leveled library is beginning to fall apart, so we need new books to bring it back to life!

These new books will get our students excited about reading again.

The First Graders will be thrilled to have leveled books that are fun, interesting, and not held together with tape and staples. Please help us continue to inspire our students to love reading!
