My Students

I want my students to be able to experience quality books at their reading level throughout the year. I have been using leveled readers made from paper. These books are time consuming to make, costly, and most are only in black and white. Real leveled readers will help keep my students engaged and be more “green."

Fourteen of my twenty-three first grade students are struggling readers.

I am asking for your support to receive leveled A and B readers for our classroom library. Low level books that are engaging and meaningful are few and far between. The low leveled readers in our classroom are quite old and are falling apart. This leaves the children to use black and white books made from paper.

My Project

My students need quality fiction and non fiction leveled readers to use during guided and independent reading. New low leveled reading books will allow me to teach each student at their level. Also, the students will have the ability to pick up a book they are comfortable with and not feel overwhelmed. This will help them to practice reading strategies and gain fluency, as well as comprehend and discuss literature with each other.

By choosing to support this project, you are helping students build the foundation of their reading lives.

The guided reading books would be a resource for the students to use daily. Guided reading is a critical part of the first grade curriculum and having quality leveled readers will ensure that the students are getting a solid foundation in reading.
