This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year I will be working with 95 public school first graders. My classroom (both virtual and in-person) is filled with inquisitive and resilient students who are excited to learn about the world around them. They are a group of diverse learners, who bring into our classroom different cultures, perspectives, and learning needs. Although the last few months of their schooling experience looked a little different due to COVID-19, our students continued to work hard and find new ways to stay connected.

Our students compassionately work to support each other with their learning and emotional needs.

I cannot wait to continue working with these fantastic students in the fall to provide them the best education we can in these uncertain times.

My Project

Help support the social emotional needs of my first grade students at home so they can find peace during stressful times.

Our students' social emotional well being is always an important aspect of learning and even more so in these unprecedented times.

A peace corner is an area we use in our classroom and one that some students have adopted in their homes that provide a safe space for them to regulate their emotions. This is a tool that my students have learned to use over the last school year and it will be beneficial for them to have peace corner materials at home.

With your support, I am looking to purchase peace corner materials like sensory stress balls, pinwheels, coloring books, and sand timers. I also want to buy read aloud, song, and mindfulness activity books that I can use (virtually or in-person) to support all of my students' understanding of their emotions and strategies for coping.
