Help Mrs. Bucknam

I teach 1st grade at a low-income school in the state of Oregon. We are a Title 1 school, with more than 75% of students below the poverty line.

Many children in my class don't have books at home and are rarely read to by an adult outside the school. They love books and they love school. They study hard and are curious about many subjects. Unfortunately I don't have many books at their levels and feel inadequate in providing them what they need.

We need books to supply our classroom library. We need books to read out loud, so they can learn reading comprehension skills and strategies, as well as developing good learning habits.

This is really important. These little 6 year-olds deserve to have good books. You are doing the right thing.
