Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a 1st grade teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district. Many of my students are being raised in single-parent households and that sometimes includes a grandparent as the primary caregiver. Our entire school qualifies for free lunch based on the community socioeconomic status. My students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom.

My students are smart, responsible, and love to learn.

They walk into the classroom daily with bright big eyes and can't wait to learn. Because of their love for learning I am constantly searching for new tools to aid them in their learning journey.

My Project

Having flexible seating in the classroom will allow my students to take charge of their learning. Flexible seating will also give students options that work best for them. During center rotations students can choose a flexible seat and location that works best for them. Currently, students are in hard chairs and they are subjected to stay at one assigned table, because we do not have enough space in our classroom to move their large chairs around. Having flexible seating will allow students to be comfortable and inspire them to achieve their goal in our classroom.

My students are energetic, smart, and like to move around.

As an educator, I am always trying to make learning interesting and fun for them. I love to incorporate the latest technology, flexible seating, and hands-on activities into the classroom.

Although my students might not have exposure to a lot of things such as hands on activities, flexible seating, and technology, it is my job as an educator to expose them and enhance their love for learning.
