My Students

My first-grade students are excited learners that are full of questions. At this lower elementary level, there are so many new experiences to be had and it is important to keep my students engaged and eager to learn more.

Inspiring my students with hands on activities encourages them to become lifelong learners.

Our school is a founding school of the Great Kindness Challenge. We focus not only on high expectations academically, but also emphasize being good citizens. Our school has a strong sense of community where we all work together and enjoy sharing our ideas and experiences with each other.

My Project

I would love to bring Legos into our classroom to get my students inspired by engineering. My students are highly motivated by Legos, they love making and creating things with their hands and are proud to show off their creations. Our Next Generation Science Standards in first grade include creating a physical model to demonstrate how the shape of an object helps it function as needed to solve a given problem.

Not only would students be able to create their designs with Legos, they would also be problem solvers and critical thinkers based on the world around them.

Legos in our classroom would also build various math strategies for students including sorting, measuring, and symmetry. It would also build their number sense by recognizing patterns and counting. Legos truly offer endless possibilities for our classroom.
