Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I currently service students that come from all over the world such as Yemen, The Dominican Republic, China, Ecuador, Bangladesh, just to name a few. Despite just arriving, I love how eager they are to learn despite how new and different things may be for them. My students are so special to me because they persevere throughout the year, many not knowing a single word in English. I’ve had students, in particular, who have experienced major traumas when migrating to The United States.

I believe it is extremely important for my students to experience a learning space filled with books that tell their stories that embody who they are.

Illustrations will remind them of their mother land and characters will make them feel right at home.

My Project

As a former NYC student, I understand the importance of having inspirational classroom materials. Given today's social climate, our students, now more than ever, should feel seen and feel important within our classrooms. These books display characters from all walks of life!

With your help, I am looking to use this money to purchase culturally diverse books (fiction and non-fiction), to make my students know that their stories are important, their families are important, the struggles that they experience are seen and they are a valued citizen within our school community!
