My Students

My first graders are always eager and motivated to learn! They take on challenges with delight and excitement! They are thrilled to be back in the classroom learning in person every day!

My first graders strive to be the best students they can be and work diligently every day to reach their full academic potential.

They are excited to use a wide variety of materials to enrich their learning experiences.

I teach in a self-contained classroom in New Jersey. Our inner-city school district has a majority of students from low economic backgrounds. Most students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. They come to school with very limited materials and resources for their use. My students need to expand their learning experience with a wide variety of materials to spark their interest and expand their enthusiasm for life long learning.

My Project

The materials that I am requesting will give my first graders an understanding of the types and values of coins and currency. They will experience hands on learning in centers with money games and manipulatives and in a class store created and run by the students. The project materials will begin to develop the concepts of earning and saving money with the allowance game and the ATM machine. The selected games will give my students the opportunity to experience money with hands on practice. My students will greatly benefit from an early introduction to these real life skills.
