My Students

The end of the school year is always bittersweet, but it will be harder this year as many students will be moving to a new elementary school.

My students are creative, energetic and eager to learn about the world around them!

We have had so much fun learning and exploring together but now we have to get ready to say goodbye. Next school year, my district is opening a new elementary school to alleviate overcrowding at my current school. While opening a new school can be exciting, it is a bit scary for many students and parents. Many families are being forced to change schools as new attendance lines are being created. So many students have made their very first best friend this year, and now due to the new attendance lines they will not be at the same school next year. This also means that for some families that grew up in our elementary school, their child is moving to a new school with many new faces. There are so many emotions that are students have families are feeling.

My Project

Next year, about half of my current class will be starting school in a brand new school. That means that their very best friend they met this year, may not be at the same school next year. They will not be able to look forward to being in the same class, seeing each other at lunch or at recess. This change will be hard, but I hope to make it an easier transition with this project. I want to help create a special memory for my sweet class by each of them creating a pillowcase keepsake. They will be able to decorate their pillowcase using their own creativity and allowing each friend to sign their pillowcase. They will then be able to keep these pillowcases at home as a special reminder of all their kindergarten friends. As we near the end of the school year, I will read the story "First Grade, Here I Come" to help each student get excited about their new adventure. I would love to be able to surprise my students with their own copy of this book so they can reread over the summer!

Although moving schools and meeting new friends will be hard, you can help make the transition easier!

This project will allow my sweet, kindergarten class to make some special memories before we have to say goodbye. The best thing is that each student will have some special keepsakes to take home, and remember each friend they have made in their kindergarten class. Thank you for helping my class create a special memory!
