This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This community has been greatly impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Our families have lived in tents on the property of the city's civic center, moved in with relatives, and stayed at local hotels. Prior to the storm, this was a low socioeconomic area. With the loss of housing and even some jobs, it has gotten even worse.
Through all of the setbacks, we have the best little school around.
Our students are smart and very eager to learn. They come to school daily with a willingness to become better students. There is a clear team with the parents as well. They are willing to do whatever it takes to help the students be successful.
My Project
Some studies indicate that an elementary graduation is useful in so many ways. The students have that sense of pride and accomplishment. The ceremony itself is a springboard or momentum to continue to push through each level of education.
Studies indicate that having reading materials related to upcoming
life changes can be an ease and comfort. With this project, each student will be given "The Night Before Kindergarten" paperback book. This also gives the students and parents an opportunity to bond while reading and having an open discussion about what is to come. We will also take a graduation picture and have it framed in the 4x6 picture frames on graduation day. This will serve as a keepsake and a pictorial representation of the first of many accomplishments. There will also be a slideshow made that is presented at graduation. The entire class, family members, and school staff will witness our growth through pictures. This will be given out individually on the writable DVD discs to each student as a keepsake. Overall, we want the students to be proud of themselves and reach for the highest of heights!
