Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Each of my advanced placement students enters their junior year full of excitement. I intend to meet that excitement with quality experiences that expose them to what the American Dream is all about.

These students are high achieving juniors and seniors that have succeeded at an exemplary level on the Global Regents exam in their sophomore year.

They have been selected to be members of the Advanced Placement American Studies program due to their drive and thirst for knowledge. My students come from different sections of New York City and represent many ethnic and racial groups. The one unifying academic factor is the need for challenging courses for growth as scholars. Also, they all come from families that are struggling financially.

My Project

Each of my students have dreams of attending top notch colleges and universities. Unfortunately they are attending a disadvantaged school in a disadvantaged system. They need to increase their SAT scores by an average of 125 points. The SAT prep course that most wealthy and middle class students attend is unaffordable for my students.

My students need SAT prep, and the instructional technology and online practice tools that come with the prep book are just what they need to hone their reading and math skills so that they will be on a more even playing field with the suburban applicants.
