This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My Pre-K students live a life that many would not imagine existed. They are housed by day in a homeless shelter in the 4th largest school district. They are predominately 99% African-American and Hispanic. They have shelter and food, yet first aid kits are expensive and rarely seen in my student's lives.

Providing first aid kits to Pre-K students and their families will assist in health education, and prevent a small health problem from turning into a larger one!

The First Aid Kit that is selected is a well-equipped box that will serve the student and their family for quite a while. Medical supplies are not an item that can be purchased with government assistance, including EBT and WIC. These items are often not purchased, as they are very expensive. Teaching basic health science in my classroom will assist students in the future to know the basics of cleaning a cut and covering it with a band-aid. Additionally, the fine motor skills involved in teaching students how to take their temperature will be a life-long skill, and a math lesson as well!

I am asking for an iPad so that I can make "Healthy PRE-K" student videos with the first aid kits to share with their classmates, parents, and other school staff members. With proper media releases, these mini lessons could be shared on YouTube to show that 4 year olds really are the able to properly demonstrate health tips!
