Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My second graders come from a very rough area. They have seen, heard, and experienced much more than any child should at their young age. I want my students to become well educated adults who will lead happy productive lives.

Many of my students live in shelters or come from single parent homes.

Even dealing with their home situations, most come to school happy every day and eager to learn. Since money is very scarce at their homes, I try to give them experiences that I know most of them won't be able to have due to financial reasons.

My Project

The funding of this project will allow me and the other second grade teachers to take our students on a class trip to the NYC Fire Museum. They will participate in a safety education program designed to teach them how to prevent fires within the home and how to protect themselves and escape should a fire occur. This trip could one day save their lives.

This trip will give the students a hands on experience of what to do in case a real fire should occur.

They will be taught about various fire and burn hazards that are in houses that can cause a fire, and what can be done to prevent it. This is a trip every child should experience.
