My Students

My students are an energetic and excited bunch of kindergarten to second graders. Our classroom is involved in the Autism Initiative Verbal Behavior Program. All of my students are diagnosed with autism, and they have a range of needs that are addressed through small group and one-to-one teaching sessions.

My students thrive when they have the necessary fidgets to keep their hands busy, and craft supplies to practice their fine motor skills.

My students are working to improve not just their academic skills, but communication and social skills, so that they can interact with their world in the fullest way possible.

My Project

The craft supplies will help my students to improve their fine motor skills by manipulating new items like paint dobbers, paint brushes, and glue sticks. We also practice our cutting skills when we do projects, along with working on listening to directions and spatial awareness.

The sensory items will allow my students to have fidget items to keep their fingers busy when their bodies need to move but their ears need to listen!

These are especially helpful when students are being included with their peers in a general education setting, and need to be able to keep themselves calm and focused.
