Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood in Houston, TX. The students at our school must be in a lower income bracket to qualify for Pre-k. Many of their parents are either from Hispanic countries or are first-generation Americans. It is in the classroom that my four and five year olds first develop their feelings about school, learning how it relates to them. They come in eager and ready to learn about the world around them. They love learning through play.

My Project

When we began school this year we were all virtual due to the pandemic. As the year progressed, more students have been returning to the classroom. I have noticed a delay in many of my students' fine motor skills. Lack of fine motor skills may effect the self- esteem and academic performance of my students.

The materials I have chosen will strengthen my students finger and hand muscles.

LEGOs, watercolors, Play-Doh, paint, golf pencils, dry erase markers, and sheet protectors and letter builders are time-tested materials that will provide practice in fine-motor skills. I will also be able to use these materials for academic objectives such as writing, and tracing the alphabet and numerals.
