My Project

Many Kindergarteners come to school without the ability to cut with scissors or hold a pencil. This causes an issue when I am teaching them how to form their letters and write their name. I have at least two students each year that fist their pencil and crayons and many more that have such weak hands they can’t write legibly. Students coming to school with inadequate fine motor skills is rising.

I would like to have fine motor skill stations every morning to help my students build more strength in their hands and fingers.

I have done research and have found materials that will be beneficial to my students. Strength building putty is a great way to build strength. Nuts and bolts, lock and keys, and stringing beads helps students with their tripod grip. have been using spirographs during fine motor skills buckets and I am asking for pens that will fit in the small holes. Teachers Pay Teachers has many cutting activities that can be printed to practice scissor skills. I feel that having materials for these fine motor skill activities will make a huge difference in my students being successful kindergartners.
