My Students

My students are a beautiful, multi-cultural group with differing abilities. My classroom is hands- and brains-on, and we love to learn from one another and through music. We love to sing and dance. They give their all in the classroom despite facing some incredible odds. My goal is to inspire my students to believe in themselves and to become lifelong learners. They have made my life brighter, and I would like to brighten theirs in return! They are so deserving!

My Project

"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." -William Butler Yeats All elementary teachers have the responsibility of teaching young children to read, and many of us have learned to do it very well.

However, great teachers inspire their students to love learning and foster a love of reading in their classroom.

If I can create an atmosphere for my students to fall in love with reading, there are no boundaries to what they can learn!

I am requesting "design-your-own" tote bags and fabric markers so my students can use the creativity to decorate bags to hold their books. When teach lessons on how to read, I use prescribed book sets. In order to foster a love of reading for my students, I use silent reading time. During this time, students choose their own books to read from a set of books they have personally selected. My students would use their creativity to design tote bags to hold the books they select. I believe that combining art and reading will help foster a love of reading in my classroom!
