At this point, our school is doing remote learning only. Students are able to access curriculum both online and through packets that were mailed home. Some students are limited to what resources they can access due to no internet availability where they live. Students never had a chance to say good bye to their classmates or their teachers before the pandemic occurred.
No one knew what was coming next.
It was a normal half day of school, we sent the kids home expecting to see them again come Monday. How very wrong that was. Little did we know, we wouldn't be seeing our kids for the rest of the school year. Our last day was March 13th.
We are in constant contact with our families, and are able to provide meals, and necessitates our families may need, which we are so grateful for. Our number one priority is our families' health, safety and well being. This project is intended for their emotional well-being, so they can look forward to watching the caterpillars change into beautiful butterflies.
My Project
These materials will make a huge difference in my students learning from home. This project will provide my students the opportunity to learn about life cycles while watching it happen in real life. We are currently preparing the curriculum for the life cycle unit we teach in the spring. Usually, as a class, students get to experience the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly.
The excitement of students' faces while watching their caterpillars transform into butterflies is magical.
Having a caterpillar kit of their own will help our students feel connected to their school community by allowing them to share their observations of their caterpillars. They will be able to compare their caterpillars to other classmates' and describe the differences. Butterflies give us hope. Please help give my students hope, fun, amazement and the knowledge that life will go on as they watch these caterpillars become beautiful butterflies in these scary and uncertain times.
