My Students

The students I serve each day come to our school facing a variety of challenges. Living in the most dangerous section of our capital city, these children have been faced with hardships in their eight years that many could not imagine in a lifetime.

"Education is the most powerful which you can use to change the world" Nelson Mandela.

This quote perfectly describes my efforts as I push my students to persevere through their challenges, to the success that lies ahead of them.

My Project

Mindfulness has been scientifically proven to reduce the effects of stress and trauma on the brain's day to day function. Yoga helps as an additional tool to release feelings of anxiety and stress from students who are constantly placed in these types of environments. Attending a training such as this will allow me the tools to help students access their peace regardless of the trauma they have endured.

Students in our school each day are faced with immeasurable circumstances that deeply impact their performance both academically and socially. Allowing access to resources such as mindfulness and yoga practices give them an ability to better cope with the violence and turmoil that often plague the neighborhoods from which they arrive each day.
