Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Last year was our first year back in person after the pandemic and, though it was so powerful and relieving to be back in person, many of my students were struggling with anxiety and social fears. I always strive to make the classroom a shared space where students feel appreciated, safe, comfortable, and empowered. When students feel these things, they are more able to learn new things, take risks, and grow in my 9th grade Social Studies class. Please help me provide these student-suggested tools and games to allow students to interact with each other fun and less stressful ways, take mindfulness breaks, and build community. I'm hoping to have these materials available for classroom breaks, to give students a fun space to eat lunch and hang out, but also as some experiential activities to help us define solidarity and what it means to work together for our opening unit of the year. I'm especially passionate about this project because my former students handpicked these items as a suggestion for this school year.
