This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We believe that every student, no matter what, should have the chance at college success. The students at our school are buoyed up by a community of educators with the passion to ensure success. We are located in the middle of a diverse, working-class neighborhood in Hayward.

Last year, we opened a brand new middle school!

This year, we are a 7th-8th college-bound community of innovators, creative thinkers, athletes, and change makers. Next year, we'll add a 6th-grade class as well.

My Project

Recently, I went whale watching in Santa Cruz during vacation. When I was discussing the magical experience with my students, they were amazed that I got to ride on a boat and see these majestic creatures up close. Many of my students said they had never been to the beach or ocean before, and all of them said they had never been on a boat or seen a whale.

Usually, activities like whale watching are reserved for the most privileged students in our society -- what an incredible experience for our first-generation college bound students: searching for whales and learning about the fragile and beautiful ecosystem of our oceans!

Your support will help my students make the 1.5 hour trip from Hayward to Santa Cruz in order to enjoy an educational and memorable day, learning about the various species of sea life they encounter, and enjoying their first time at sea.
