This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Each student embodies a language, a new life, and a unique aspiration.

What resources can I provide my children to help them discover and embrace their new language homes while maintaining peace with their past and pride in their present?

The abundance of strength and passion for success is truly inspiring. With each book, snack, and comforting item, my students express their desire to be in school, to engage, and to create their new language homes within the classroom. Many of them have not had full access to education, but witnessing the doors of opportunity wide open is a transformative experience for more than just a few. Each book, snack, and hygiene item is a tool I can provide to help them cultivate their trust in the power of a classroom and the possibility of an education that highlights all aspects of their humanity. Items such as snacks, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, and menstrual kits are as vital to their learning as comic and mystery books. As a first-generation child of immigrant parents and siblings, I want them to develop a deep love and trust for school, just as I did.
