Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a school counselor I have the privilege to work with students K-8. These students come from diverse backgrounds and look forward to meeting with me. The counseling room is a very inclusive place. Everyone is welcome. This is why its important for me to create an environment that is welcoming and where my students will feel valued and safe. I want them to know that at this school they are loved and cared for.

As a school counselor I see students in my room daily.

Providing a safe space for students to come when they need to talk, regulate their emotions, and work on social-emotional skills is important. Having a dry erase board allows them to decompress while drawing. i can use it to demonstrate how to. The color printer will allow me to print resources they can use for collage, to create dream boards, and self portraits amongst other art therapy projects.

Providing these items for the counseling office will help students as they learn to regulate their emotions and work on social-emotional skills.

My Project

If my project is fully funded I will use the dry erase board for students to draw on, a board they can make their mark on and leave messages. I will print worksheets and color photos and pictures students can use to collage self portraits, family trees, dream boards and many art therapy exercises. The speaker will be used to play music and create the mood for creativity. I want my students to feel relaxed in an environment that is conducive to learning while listening to soft instrumental music while they work.
