Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach the best group of kiddos in the world. My class is a SAILS classroom (Succeeding in Academic and Independent Living Skills. Supporting special needs students in grade K-5. They are very special to me. My students are loving, hard working and have the best personalities. They find the good in every situation and don’t allow their individual disabilities to hold them back.

I teach students with various disabilities such as autism, down syndrome, speech delays, various learning disabilities, emotional disturbances, and medical challenges.

A few of my students have multiple impairments.

My school is a Title I campus in a low income neighborhood. Many of the parents struggle to make ends meet. With the onset of virtual learning many of my students and parents are very overwhelmed trying to adapt to the virtual setting. I would love to add more appropriate resources to my classroom to ensure students are as successful online as they would be in the classroom.

My Project

In my special need’s classroom learning basic life skills are just as important as learning academics. In order for my students to be successful later in life.

While we cannot take community trips during this time of Covid, with these two kits I can bring the grocery store and bank to life in the classroom.

We would be able to learn about spending and saving with an in-class bank then plan our store were we would be able to practice making purchases and the financial transactions necessary to be successful.
