Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The goal of this project is to help teach financial literacy skills through an engaging and exciting classroom economy system. This particular classroom economy will be implemented just like in real life! Students will apply for classroom leadership roles to earn "money" for jobs by showing leadership skills, helping others, and reaching goals. Students then make decisions regarding their own spending and earning habits when they decide how much to "spend" in our classroom store on items ranging from stickers to water bottles!

My students come from one of the poorest zip codes in the nation and yet they are one of the most optimistic group of young leaders you can ever meet!

Ninety-five percent of my students receive free lunch and live below the poverty line. This project will help equip them with the skills needed to help break a cycle of generational poverty.

The iPad will be used by students to further expand their knowledge of financial literacy. Students can research and learn about local community aid programs, or read picture books geared toward students their age regarding a variety of financial topics such as the use of credit cards, savings, and even investments!
