My Project

My students come in every day raring and ready to go! Our day always begins with several hugs and exciting news that they have to share with me.

To be surrounded by children who love you despite your flaws, can't wait to see you every day, and think you hung the moon is the greatest gift in the world!

The majority of my students come from high poverty homes, and many don't have Internet access at home.

In today's world, a good work ethic and a strong understanding of money will take you a long way. Money knowledge is one of the most difficult skills for second graders to completely master. It has become especially difficult in a society that mostly pays with plastic, rather than cash. I would like to have a variety of books to read to my students about money. This would also be the ideal way to open the floor to meaningful discussions about money. The perfect way to do this would be to gather them near me on classroom carpet squares so they can easily see the books and pay attention.

I would then like to implement a classroom money management system where students are rewarded classroom money(tickets)for being kind to others and responsible in the classroom. They would then be able to decide how to budget their tickets to buy items in our class store, which I am requesting with this project. Students will be able to sit on our classroom carpet squares to learn about financial literacy and then purchase items like mini lego sets, LED glasses, and popping toys with their hard earned tickets! Financial literacy in action!
