Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am teaching a class of fifth and sixth graders in a self-contained classroom. All of my students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and receive free breakfast and lunch. My students work hard and are eager and excited to learn and grow.
My students need to learn about saving and spending with hands-on materials.
My Project
My students will explore economic decision-making through hands-on learning. My students would benefit greatly from having a hands-on Money Kit that includes a Real-Working Cash Register, The Allowance Game®, Money Power Pen!® Quiz Cards and a Power Pen!® With your support, this project will provide my students with a financial literacy kit to help them build a strong foundation and long-lasting money habits. Students will be given a budget of $5 to make an economic choice in a classroom store by purchasing snacks using coins and bills. Students will check their work by making change from $5.00. After making their purchases, they will identify the opportunity cost of their economic choice. This introduces students to the budgeting and cost-benefit analyses aspects of personal finance. Thank you for considering helping my classroom and our school.
