My Students

Our school has a long history embedded in the community we serve. Students are excited to attend a school where many of their parents and even grandparents went before them. I have an exciting opportunity to going building a STEAM Resource program as we enter year 2 of the program! When you walk into my classroom you won't see students sitting in desks diligently taking notes, instead,​ you'll see students brainstorming ideas, drawing images, building models, testing their solution, and more!

My students are spunky, inquisitive, and hardworking.

"I never knew school could be this fun!" a student shouted to a group member as they were working on a STEAM project. It is moments like these that push me to ensure that my students always have opportunities for hands-on, real-life learning experiences. It is wonderful donors, like yourself, that can help me to provide these experiences to our youngest learners!

My Project

Have you ever thought back to the moment that you understood that 2+2=4? This is a concept that many of us would probably say we just always knew to be fact. However, skills such as this one definitely have to be learned. Often times students struggle with math and financial literacy. They either don't have a strong foundation and/or they are not provided with a variety of ways to help them fully understand the financial literacy concepts.

Toy straws and magnetic tiles will fix this because they will build pattern and shape recognition skills, which are the foundation of financial literacy.

Students who are able to create and build patterns will go on to counting money with ease, making change, and much more. I can help students learn basic financial literacy skills by giving them a certain number of materials to start or allow them to exchange colored straws or magnets with other groups during a build. Giving our students a strong foundation to financial literacy will allow us to see fewer gaps in their learned math knowledge as they get older.
