My Students

This section asks to describe what makes my students special and I don't even know where to begin! My students come from a variety of different backgrounds. Some are newcomers from the Middle East, while some come from families where generations have attended the very school they are at now. I make sure to do everything possible to send my students out into the world as compassionate, tolerant individuals. The neighborhood I teach in is high poverty, but our school really tries to level the playing field for all students.

Each of my students is passionate about a number of different things and, as a teacher, I try to find ways to ignite that passion.

Not all of my students are excellent at math or reading, but they might love sports or technology. As a class, we enjoy coming up with ways to incorporate a little bit of ourselves into what we are learning.

My Project

Financial Literacy starts early and in second grade, students are working to master money concepts! We are already working on developing a classroom economy, but these materials will help my students grasp money concepts even more quickly.

Play money, games and a cash register will help my students to visualize the concepts being taught in their math books and will make things seem more "real." Students at this age are still learning through "play" and being able to give them games and puzzles to use will allow them to practice with each other.

The cash register and play money will be great to use in our classroom economy. Students will be able to earn money for positive behavior, being on task, etc. and then spend money in the student store.
