Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like to play "store" and how exciting it was to be able to know the value of different combinations of coins? It is through these types of activities that will make it easier to teach financial literacy.

My first grade students live in a high poverty neighborhood.

All of my 25 students are English language learners. They are very friendly, energetic, curious, and eager to learn new concepts and skills. They enjoy mathematics, science,arts & crafts, and writing sentences.

My Project

My students need to learn to count money (coins). We need an area (rug) where they can interact with the math manipulatives. The students will get hands-on counting practice as they play "store" with the plastic cookies and other items. Also, the jumbo-sized magnetic money will enrich and enhance their money skills. The students' excitement for learning financial literacy would be ignited!

Donating to this project would have a great influence on my students' lives.

It would expose them to visuals, hands-on, and experiences that are life long skills (financial literacy).
