Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first grade students are full of energy, creativity, and curiosity. They love interactive projects across curriculum subject areas such fun literature, mathematics, writing, and the arts.

My first grade students live in a high poverty neighborhood.

All of my 24 students qualify for the free breakfast and lunch program. They are very friendly and are eager to learn new concepts and skills. They enjoy mathematics, literature, the arts and crafts, and retelling stories.

My Project

My first graders need literature (Money, Money, Honey Bunny) that will introduce my students to the concept and understanding of spending and saving. Also, my students need resources like glue sticks, stamp pads, and writing paper to do hands on activities to encourage them to learn how to count money (coins) that will give them more experiences in number sense and addition. Grade level literature, hands-on activities like stamping coins, and writing activities related to our social studies unit (Needs versus Wants) will give my students experiences that will reinforce my students' financial literacy skills. All of these resources will help and motivate the importance of financial literacy.

Donating to this project will have a long-lasting impact on my students' lives because financial literacy will help them now and in the future.

Grade level literature, visuals, hands-on activities, and writing will make it easier for students to understand the concept of financial literacy.
