My Students

My students are a diverse group of kids who have various strengths and needs. They are in a self-contained class that includes students who are diagnosed with multiple disabilities. When they come to the classroom, they are eager to learn and are motivated to try their best in each classroom subject and activity. Watching them grow each day is a privilege.

To help them succeed in the classroom, my students benefit from multi-sensory activities and flexible seating options.

My students are best supported through a highly structured environment with hands on learning and visual supports. Supporting their needs promotes communication and interaction among peers and adults.

My Project

We are beginning to start a blended learning model school year with some students learning fully remotely and some students coming into the classroom every day. The covid19 pandemic has taught us that there are many needs that we must possess if we want to continue being healthy.

The students in this classroom range from Kindergarten age to second grade.

Teaching them about needs and wants is a very crucial skill. It is important that they learn about what they need now to come to school and things that they would like to have when they are in school. In school they will need masks and sanitizing wipes. Also, they will earn items for positive behavior reinforcement. Sensory toys have been requested to help motivate students to want to earn these prizes for positive behavior. To guide this ongoing lesson through the year, we will be reading two books: one on needs versus wants and one about earning.
