This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a fabulous elementary school. Recently, we have been designated as a Gold STEAM school. I would like to continue our STEAM adventure for this new school year with my fourth graders. Math and science will be infused to show they go hand-in-hand with reading and writing. I want to introduce them to programs like Discovery Learning to supplement their science text. We have an incredible robotics program in the school and enrichment programs that encourage students in these subject areas. I'm excited to show students how these subjects are interdisciplinary.

My Project

The iPad will help my students practice their mathematical skills. Schools are now pushing STEAM to incorporate all subject areas to promote 21st-century skills. Students will be able to use the iPad to calculate deposits, withdrawals, and savings. They will learn to understand that in order to spend money, they will need to save money. They will keep track of their accounts and manage their finances. They will need to maintain a specific balance to make sure they won't overdraft. The screen protectors and cases will protect the iPad from any damage. My students will also be able to complete their Reflex and iReady Math program with a simple touch. My students are low-income fourth graders who do not have access to technology at home. This tool will open many doors for my ESOL and ESE students. Learning a new language is difficult, at least calculating numbers is something they are comfortable doing in their native language. This will motivate and build their self-esteem.
